The Happy Hooker

When I heard a new fish-focused joint was opening up in Toronto’s west end, I just had to check it out. STAT. I’m obsessed with fish tacos. Obsessed. They’re my jam.

The Happy Hooker opened up March 5 and is already generating some great buzz. The place is small-ish. More of a take-out place, but there’s some counter-top seating and one window table that can seat about 8.

We tucked into the shrimp corn dogs (not pictured – ate them too fast!). Lightly battered shrimp on a stick that comes with three dipping sauces. Delicious! And priced to share (2 for $6).

I ordered 3 Cali Baja tacos ($3.50 each).  My fish taco-loving friend MM also tried the shrimp taco and a cod taco (they were out of grouper), and announced the Cali Baja to be her favourite. While not large in size, the Cali Baja tacos were tasty and fairly filling. The friendly waitress recommended we try them with a squirt of fresh lime (included) and some of their house-made smoky hot sauce (yum). My other crew member on this mission was K, who got the Organic Kale salad in addition to a shrimp taco and really enjoyed it.

I topped it all off with a refreshing bottle of pineapple Sumol, and started planning my next visit.

P.S. They’re working on a liquor license. Yays.
