The other day someone asked me where I bought my workout/gym clothes. After I stopped laughing, I managed to explain that I’m perhaps the least fancy person ever when it comes to gym garb. I don’t so much buy gym clothes as I acquire them or unearth them from a pile of clothes I had previously deemed only acceptable for house painting or being murdered in.
My current gym outfit consists of:
- A Toronto Blue Jays t-shirt I got for free because some asshat teenager vomited on me during the last game of the season
- A pair of black trackies so old and worn out that at this point they are pretty much being held together with prayer and one strategically placed safety pin that is about 2 days away from going on strike.
I go to a women’s only gym, and it’s pretty obvious from the outfits that there are no men in sight. I’m not even cracking the top 10 worst dressed list on my ugliest day. Some of the outfits these women show up in are things I wouldn’t even wear to run to the corner store for some milk and a bootleg copy of ‘He’s Just Not That Into You’. Then there’s the other side of the spectrum: the women who show up straight from the strip club, apparently. My favourite is this one chick who wears gold high-top Converse lace-ups to work out in. Practical…if you’re going straight from the gym to the set of a Run-D.M.C. music video in 1994.
I hit the interweb for some suggestions on what fancy people are wearing to pound the elliptical.
First stop: Nike
I really love the look of this top (any excuse to mention NYC, really).
And these scream “I’m totally not going to go eat McDonalds after I leave the gym!”
Continuing on: Adidas
Stella McCartney designs a line for Adidas and I am in ♥ with this London-themed top. It looks loose and comfy and like something I would wear outside the gym too. I’d pair it with these gray trackies and marvel at how fast I look.
Last stop: Under Armour
I’ve been hearing a lot about Under Armour from the men whose conversations I inadvertently eavesdrop on while I’m trying to smell their necks. I didn’t even know they had stuff for ladies!
I love the fresh burst of colour on this zip-up.
And would pair it with these looser fitting gray shorts in warmer months.
I’m inspired. And now I’m off to rob a bank in order to afford my new fancy workout clothes. Plus, it’s good cardio.
