NxNE Mini Review: Best Coast and The Soft Pack at The Garrison

Welcome to NxNE night three. On Friday night M and I hit the Garrison to see Best Coast and The Soft Pack.

Los Angeles-based Best Coast are the perfect soundtrack for a lazy hungover day in the park or on the beach. Singer Bethany Cosentino’s unpretentious Liz Phair-ish vocals and girl-next-door-meets-art-student good looks had the crowd on their toes trying to get a better view.

The Soft Pack were up next. Hailing from San Diego, I felt that the band suffered from a bit of an identity crisis, resulting in an awkward mix of pop, rock and shouty punk sounds. But I may be alone in my opinion since they fared well at South by Southwest a few months ago.
