Stuff On My Fridge

22 02 2012

I realized the other day that I’ve been using my fridge as a sort of ‘inspiration board’ or  cork board for ‘stuff’ for a few years now. It’s where I proudly display my travel magnets, postcards from friends who’ve moved away or travelled abroad, homages to 80′s movie icons, and pictures of other people’s cute babies.

Here’s a photo of what’s on my fridge as of this morning:

Stuff on my fridge

Let’s  take a closer look at some of this craziness, shall we?

  • ‘Stop being a douchebag’ magnet from the One of a Kind Show.

Douche magnet

  • Sassy side-eye rooster magnet, also from the One of a Kind Show.

Side-eye sassy magnet

  • Wedding photo of one of my favourite couples, M and J.

  • My Texas magnet, purchased on a stop-over en route to Las Vegas.

Go Texas!

  • Magnet from The Strand – an amazing NYC bookstore.

A New York City institution

  • A postcard from my friend P from Boston who’s now living in Brooklyn. But I’m secretly hoping we can lure him back to Toronto….

Postcard from Pete

  • The cast of St Elmo’s Fire – one of my favourite movies and the inspiration behind a group Halloween costume two years ago. It’s secured to my fridge with my red-head shakes fist magnet. OHMYGOD Rob Lowe was so effing handsome. Still is!

My Brat Pack

  • My Ossington subway magnet (my station stop), securing the most ridiculous postcard of all time from Nice, France from my friend K. You can just see the tip of a cat’s ear on the right side. WHY IS THERE A CAT ON A POSTCARD OF NICE? Haha.

Neighbourhood shout out

Bits & Pieces

3 02 2012

Yo yo yo,

This has felt like the longest week ever – anyone else? And I was only in the office for three days. I guess that’s what happens when you get back from an amazing vacation (Curacao post coming soon!) and experience withdrawal from sunshine and pina coladas and unlimited bacon.

Sigh.

Anyhoodle – hope y’all have a great weekend. I’m looking forward to the Super Bowl on Sunday. Not so much for the football aspect, but for the nachos and beer that usually accompany it, natch. I also enjoy randomly shouting “PENETRATE THE BLITZ!” at various points throughout the game, but I don’t know what it means.

Here are some bits and pieces that made my week:

  • I love Mumford & Sons so hard. I also crush on Taylor Swift. So Taylor singing ‘White Blank Page’ ?- all over it.
  • This video completely blew me away – and it was filmed in a Toronto bookstore called Type Books!
  • I would definitely consider extending my next trip to NYC a little to take advantage of one of these weekend getaways.
  • How to look cute in the cold. The temps in Toronto have been somewhat mild of late (booyah), so I’ve been getting by with my spring coat, a scarf, and my Hunter rain boots. But I have a feeling that by next week I’ll be burrowing back into my trusty 3-year-old Aritzia parka. Blerg.
  • I’ve been loving the “Shit ‘whoevers‘ Say” videos popping up all over the interweb. This one might be my favourite. I highly doubt anyone would be interested in a ‘Shit law Firm Marketers Say’ video but that won’t stop me from making one. Consider yourself warned.
  • I’d literally shit myself. But damn, these are some amazing pictures.
  • Dr. Who – 47 years in 6 minutes. The nerd in me squeed a little. Also, this was a helpful catch-up given that I’ve only very recently gotten into Dr. Who (solely due to Matt Smith) but have seen some David Tennant episodes too that I liked.
  • I don’t have an iPhone (gasp!) but I can completely appreciate the hilarity of auto correct. This site is my favourite new time waster.
  • Oooh tea party!
  • Yup, it’s a tumblr featuring a dog with food on its head. Simple. Hilarious. And I think it’s kind of genius.

Bits & Pieces

26 11 2011

Hello attractive people.

I have to ask: what the fuck happened to November? How is it already November 26? Seems like it was just Halloween. Ugh.

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?  I hit up the One of a Kind Show for the 3rd year in a row this past Thursday and managed to get almost all of my shopping done in 3 hours. H and I have made it a yearly tradition to go on opening night. Last year I found a booth selling the most original, cute, and downright saucy fridge magnets. I bought my friend M one that said ‘anus’.

Simple.

Powerful.

I was thrilled to come across the magnet booth again this year and when I told them what a hit the magnet was last year, an excited employee immediately steered me to the new ‘anus magnet 3-pack’.

Ah, the holidays.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend! Here are some bits and pieces that made my week:

  • An inspirational video featuring bike enthusiasts that even inspired me - and I’m kind of a scaredy-cat riding my bike in the city!
  • Hangover cures you may be using this holiday season after one too many at the office party! A friendly reminder that if your work party (like mine last year) brings in a digital photo booth to ‘capture the special moments’ of your work shindig, please keep in mind that SOMEONE IN YOUR OFFICE WILL HAVE ACCESS TO ALL OF THOSE PHOTOS! Those photos don’t disappear because you rip them up. Just sayin’. Consider it a public service and my gift to you.
  • Mmmmm these homemade potato chips look yummy and easy enough to serve up at a home holiday bash.
  • I’m not going to lie: I sort of thought this was for realsies the first time I watched it. Genius! Catvertising!
  • A must-do on my next trip to NYC!
  • I watched this video of an owl like 30 times this week. He’s so freaking handsome. I want!
  • Wanting to amp up your party face? This how-to video makes applying eye liner easy peasy with the help of a surprising item we all have at home: tape!

xoxo

Bits & Pieces

9 09 2011

Morn!

Hope everyone enjoyed the short work week! I spent my long weekend with great friends at a wonderful cottage about 2 and a half hours outside of Toronto. We swam in the lake, ate delicious food, set off some fireworks and played a lot of board games. Some of us (read: just one person, but I’m trying to be delicate) even revealed a previously undetectable/slightly frightening competitive side not usually seen outside of cheerleader movies.

Here are some Bits & Pieces that caught my eye on the Internet this week.
